I’m Aaron. I am an artist/illustrator/cartoonist. What I truly love to do most is daydream in my sketchbooks.
It's an addiction but I'm pretty okay being at its mercy.
These are all/most of the sketchbooks I am currently working in.
I know, it's a problem. But they all offer something a little different.
For a long time I was pretty monogamous with the sketchbook I worked in. When I stumbled on the now-ubiquitous Moleskine in high school it quickly became my go-to outlet for sketching.
These are excerpts from my Moleskine sketchbooks that span ten years of my life, starting in art school in 2005 and ending in 2015 when I quit my day job to pursue full-time self-employment.
I don't love or even like most of the pages in these sketchbooks. I can track my developing skills, both written and drawn. I can see how my voice changes over time: ten formative years of words and pictures. Each individual page might not be anything special but In its totality it's something great.
I have been slowly posting video tours of these on my Youtube here.
Since then my sketchbooks have become a multi-pronged endeavor, not really having a primary book but many books each for slightly different things.
I have been looking for a place to share my sketchbooks both past and present. I’m hoping this will be a good place to figure out what that looks like. Sorry I can’t hand you one to flip through; that's really the best way to experience them. But, in lieu of that…
Thanks for looking.
Aaron
thank you so much Rik, Its so hard to see your own work without seeing its failings, cant turn off that brain filter but it gets quieter with time...maybe? Just gotta keep going even if you don't always like what you see.
d.w is the man thanks for looking, another post is brewing for next week
